Where to Stay

Best hotels & resorts in Rocky Point.

An independent local breakdown of where to sleep in Puerto Peñasco — Sandy Beach all-inclusives, Las Conchas beach rentals, walkable Old Port hotels, and quieter Cholla Bay homes. Pick the zone first, then the property.

All-inclusive & resort towers

Sandy Beach Resorts

The strip of high-rise resorts and condo towers north of town. This is where most first-time visitors stay — long, wide beach, pools stacked above pools, swim-up bars, and everything from jet skis to banana boats stepping right off the sand. Best pick if you want an all-inclusive Puerto Peñasco experience with minimal driving.

  • Mayan Palace / Vidanta Puerto Peñasco

The largest resort complex. Multiple pools, golf, and the most polished grounds on Sandy Beach. Good for families who want one fence to stay inside.

  • Sonoran Sea / Sonoran Sky / Sonoran Sun

The 'Sonoran' condo-resort trio. Full kitchens, beachfront balconies, and pools right on the sand. Rented through owners or on Airbnb/VRBO — often the best value for families and groups.

  • Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort

Condo-resort with three pool complexes, a golf course, and a strong on-site restaurant scene. Popular with longer stays.

  • Peñasco Del Sol

Closer to town, more traditional hotel format (rooms vs. condos). Easy walk to the Malecón and Old Port.

Best for: First-time visitors, all-inclusive vibes, families, spring break.

Private beach houses

Las Conchas Vacation Rentals

A gated residential beach community east of the Malecón. No towers, no resorts — just private homes you rent directly (Airbnb, VRBO, owner sites). Mornings are quiet, the beach is calm at sunrise, and you'll have a kitchen and usually a pool. This is where repeat visitors and families with cars tend to land.

  • Beachfront homes (front row)

Step-out-the-door sand. Sleep 6–14 typically. Prices climb on holidays — book early for Semana Santa, Memorial Day, and Christmas week.

  • Second-row & interior homes

A short walk to the beach for a meaningful discount. Many still have private pools.

Best for: Multi-family trips, repeat visitors, anyone who wants quiet and a kitchen.

Walkable, in-town

Old Port & Malecón Hotels

Smaller, often family-run hotels in and around the original fishing port and Malecón. You trade resort amenities for the ability to walk to seafood stands, fishing boats coming in, shops, and the oldest bars in town. Often the cheapest way to sleep in Rocky Point.

  • Hotel Peñasco / Posadas of the Old Port

Simple, clean, walkable to everything in the Malecón. Best for short trips and budget travelers who don't need a pool.

  • Boutique B&Bs on the harbor

Small handful of owner-run spots with rooftop views over the shrimp fleet. Charming, limited rooms — book ahead.

Best for: Couples, weekend trips, walkers, budget travelers.

Off the beaten path

Cholla Bay & Out-of-Town

Northwest of town in the funky little community around JJ's Cantina. Mostly private homes and a few small inns. Wide tide flats, kayaking, and a slower pace than Sandy Beach.

  • Cholla Bay vacation rentals

Smaller homes, lots of character, easy access to tide pools and Pelican Point. Bring a vehicle.

Best for: Tide-poolers, fishermen, anyone who's done the resort strip and wants something different.

Before you book

  • Book Sandy Beach resorts and Las Conchas rentals 2–3 months ahead for holidays (Semana Santa, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Christmas/New Year).
  • True all-inclusive is rare in Puerto Peñasco — most 'resorts' here are condo-resorts where you book the room and eat à la carte. Vidanta is the main exception.
  • Mexican auto insurance is required to drive south of the border. Buy a policy before you cross — your US policy does not cover you in Mexico.
  • Most condo-resort listings on Airbnb/VRBO are individually owned, so amenities, cleanliness, and check-in vary unit to unit even in the same tower. Read recent reviews.
