Our story
An independent guide to Rocky Point.
Explore Rocky Point is a free, locally-rooted travel guide to Puerto Peñasco — written by people who actually go, for people who are planning to.
Rocky Point — officially Puerto Peñasco — sits on the northern edge of the Sea of Cortez, about a four-hour drive south of Phoenix. For decades it has been the unofficial beach of Arizona: close enough for a long weekend, foreign enough to actually feel like a vacation.
We started this guide because the existing information online was either out of date, written by people who'd never been, or buried in Facebook groups. We wanted one place that explained — clearly and honestly — where to stay, where to eat, how to cross the border, what's actually worth your time, and what to skip.
Everything here is independent. No paid placements, no sponsored rankings, no affiliate cruft. If a restaurant is on the list it's because we've eaten there; if a beach is on the list it's because we've walked it.
We also care about the town itself. Tourism is Rocky Point's economy, and how you spend money matters — we'll keep nudging readers toward local operators, paying in pesos, and tipping generously.
Have a tip?
Found something we missed? A new restaurant, a closed favorite, an updated border-crossing time? We'd love to hear it — send us a note.
