What to Pack for Rocky Point: 6 Convenient Items to Bring

While you can generally find everyday essentials throughout Puerto Peñasco, bringing a few familiar items from home can make your trip a little easier. Packing your preferred brands ahead of time means less time running errands, fewer substitutions, and more time at the beach.

1. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is available at local farmacias, supermarkets, and Walmart. However, I prefer bringing the brand and formula my family already uses, especially when we need facial, children’s, or sensitive-skin sunscreen. Be sure to pack enough - you may use more than expected under the Sonoran sun!

2. Your Favorite Wine

Puerto Peñasco has plenty of places to purchase wine, but I like bringing a bottle I already know and enjoy. It saves me from comparing unfamiliar labels while I’m on vacation and ensures I have something I’ll like waiting at the rental. Remember to stay within Mexico’s current customs limits when bringing alcohol across the border.

Travelers age 18 or older may bring up to three liters of alcoholic beverages and six liters of wine into Mexico as part of their personal luggage allowance. Customs requirements can change, so review the current guidance from Mexico’s National Customs Agency before your trip.

3. Children’s Essentials

You can purchase children’s necessities around town, but bringing your preferred brands and sizes makes traveling with kids easier. I especially recommend packing enough swim diapers, children’s sunscreen, and any other products your family uses regularly.

4. Beach Towels

This advice applies to almost any beach vacation. Airbnb and hotel towels are not always designed for the sand, and I prefer not to take someone else’s household linens while exploring. Packing our own colorful beach towels also makes them easier to recognize when everyone’s belongings are spread out.

5. A Portable Battery

Time passes surprisingly quickly at the beach and so does your phone’s battery. Bring a fully charged portable battery so you can continue taking photos, checking directions, and staying connected throughout the day.

6. Preferred Medications

Farmacias are easy to find in Puerto Peñasco, but I still pack the medications my family normally uses. Shopping for pain relievers, allergy medicine, or stomach remedies is the last thing I want to do when someone isn’t feeling well. A small travel first-aid kit can save time and help everyone get back to enjoying the trip. Travelers with prescription or controlled medications should review official requirements before crossing the border and carry supporting documentation when appropriate.
